2. Scientific Program
All sessions of the Summer Institute will be held in the main conference hall (one floor above the lobby level) of the LeMidi hotel, except for the morning session on August 11, which will be held in the conference hall at the lobby level. Two medium size rooms (LeMidi hall, with capacity 40) and (Paris hall, with capacity 30), as well as the main conference hall have been reserved for informal meetings and discussions, which are encouraged in the Summer Institute. The program of SI2008 can be found in the homepage of SI2008. Announcements of the informal meetings will be posted in front of the main conference hall.3. Registration and Reception
Registration will start on Sunday August 10 at 17:00, in the lobby of the LeMidi hotel. You can also register in the morning of August 11. The registration fee is not required. An informal welcome reception will be held on August 10, 19:00 to 21:00, in the restaurant (at the lobby level) of LeMidi hotel. It is free to all participants and all accompanying persons.4. Travel information
The travel information of reaching ChiTou has been given in the homepage of SI2008. For those who will arrive the Taoyuan International airport (TPE) on August 10, and have reserved our charter buses to the conference site, please look for the poster “Summer Institute 2008” near the Tourist Service Counter at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, where our personnel will be waiting for you. Our charter buses will depart from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, around 15:00. It will take about 3-4 hours to reach ChiTou, depending on traffic condition. In the middle of the trip, the buses will stop at the rest area for a 10 min break. For those who might miss the charter buses due to the flight delay, they can take the Ubus (or taxi) from the airport to the Taoyuan station of Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR).Then take the HSR (going south) from Taoyuan to the TaiChung station. At the exit No. 7, our lastest shuttle bus to ChiTou is scheduled to depart at 18:00. In case if you will know that you might miss the charter buses due to flight delay on Aug 10, please contact us immediately. You can send email to local organizers (si08loc@phys.ntu.edu.tw), or call us at: 0928529326 (Ms. Chia-Chi Liu 家綺), or 0920815200 (Prof. Ting-Wai Chiu). For participants who have reserved our shuttle buses from the HSR Taichung station to ChiTou, please go to the exit No. 7 of the Taichung station, our shuttle buses are scheduled to depart at 13:30, 16:50, and 18:00.5. Accommodation Information
The accommodation list has been posted in the homepage. In case of any questions, please contact Ms. Liu (ccliu@phys.ntu.edu.tw)6. Transportation between the Leader hotel and the LeMidi hotel
The distance between the Leader hotel and the LeMidi hotel is about 20-25 minutes by walking. Shuttle buses will be going from the Leader hotel to the LeMidi hotel at 8:20 and 8:40 daily, to bring the participants to the conference site. In the evening, two shuttle buses will be going from the LeMidi hotel to the Leader hotel, at 20:00 and 20:20. (actual departure time will be adjusted according to the program/activities of SI2008). If you miss these buses, you have to walk back to the Leader hotel at night. Note that it is very dark at night (no street lights at all). So it is absolutely necessary to bring an electrical flashlight with you, if you wish to walk back to the Leader hotel at night.7. Weather and Surroundings
The weather at ChiTou is similar to that of “rain-forest”. So please bring an umbrella and/or rain-coat with you. The daily temperature in August is mostly in the range 19-28 C. Note that it is very dark at night (no street lights at all). So it is absolutely necessary to bring an electrical flashlight with you, if you wish to take a walk at night.8. Meals
Breakfast is served in the restaurant at your hotel, which is free of charge. The schedules for the breakfast are: LeMidi hotel: 7:00 –10:00, Leader hotel: 7:00 –9:00. Lunch and dinner are served in the LeMidi Hotel. For the schedules, please refer to the program in the homepage of SI2008. For vegetarians, please tell us when you register, or send email to Ms. Liu (ccliu@phys.ntu.edu.tw).9. Facilities
We will use the tables at the end of the conference hall to serve coffee, tea and cookies (or fruits) during the breaks in the morning/afternoon sessions. Also, at the end of the conference hall, there are two laptops connected to the LAN as well as with a printer. They are free of charge.10. Telephone
Since wireless LAN is available anywhere at the conference site, you can use Skype to make any calls around the world. Please DO NOT use your room telephone to make any outside calls since it is quite expensive, and you have to pay for the bill yourself. On the other hand, incoming calls to your room are free of charge.11. Communications
The wireless LAN is available everywhere at the conference site and in all guest rooms. At the conference hall, it allows up to 100 people to access the internet simultaneously. There are also two laptops in the conference hall connected to the LAN as well as with a printer. They are free of charge.12. Assistance
A table in front of the conference hall will serve as the “office” of the Summer Institute 2008. You may ask for the information of transportation, or any helps. It usually opens during 9:00-18:00. We will post the announcements of schedules/changes of talks, social programs etc., in a bulletin board at the entrance of the conference hall. Moreover, please do not hesitate to ask any member of the local organizers (who carries a name plate with different color). We have scheduled the afternoon of Wednesday August 13th for excursions. Depending on the weather, we may change the excursion to an earlier or later date.There are many routes for excursion as suggested in the pamphlet of the ChiTou Forest Reserve (which is contained inside the package you will get at the registration). The following two routes are suitable for a round-trip in one afternoon.

Route 1 (distance ~ 6 km)
LeMidi hotel → Visitor Center → Plant Succession Exploration Park → Giant Cypress Tree → Sky Walk → Excercise Lawn → Forest Ecology Center → Visitor Center / Leader hotel → LeMidi hotel
Route 2 (distance ~ 6 km, but less demanding than Route 1)
LeMidi hotel → Visitor Center → Bamboo House →Giant Cypress Tree → Sky Walk → Excercise Lawn → Forest Ecology Center → Visitor Center / Leader hotel → LeMidi hotel
If you would like to pick your own route, please go with a group of 4-5 people, and also to return to LeMidi hotel before 18:00.
14. Banquet
We will hold a banquet in the evening of Wednesday, August 13th, 18:30-21:00. It is free to all participants. The fee for each accompanying person is NT$800.15. Farewell Party
We will hold an informal farewell party in the evening of Saturday, August 16th, 18:30-21:00. It is free to all participants. The fee for each accompanying person is NT$800.16. Proceedings
We will publish the Proceedings in the journal Progress of Theoretical Physics, and kindly ask all lecturers to contribute to the Proceedings. Please check the SI2008 homepage for details.17. Publications
